For many families, decorating can be difficult when space is limited. Small rooms can be tricky, because wall space is hard to come by, and as renters know, it's not always acceptable to paint or hang pictures. Sometimes there's a need to cover cracks or imperfections, but a large piece of wall decor just won't fit. So what is there to do? As many have learned, wall decals are the perfect solutions to all of these dilemmas. Here are some great examples of how to use RoomMates to dress up small spaces in your home.
Lauren recently tweeted a photo of our Scroll Tree wall decal used in her daughter's bedroom. The Scroll Tree's recommended assembly includes a long branch that stretches out about three feet in one direction. Who says you have to play by the rules, though? Lauren created her own configuration that fit perfectly into a small area between two windows. Here's how it turned out:
Do you love this as much as we do? The best thing about this configuration is that the leftover branches, flowers, and animals can be used elsewhere in the room, or as accents on furniture or the windows. And we are absolutely in love with the green paint Lauren chose! The decals really ‘pop’ off the wall, and become the focal point of this very colorful room.
The Scroll Tree isn't the only decal that can be customized. Our Poppies wall decals come with several separate stems and blossoms, so they can be placed on the wall as tall flowers, or used separately as decorations in other small spots. RoomMates fan Linda sent in some pictures of several decals in use all throughout her house, and we love what she did with these Poppies:
As you can see, Linda is working with a small space in a hallway between two rooms. She assembled the Poppies to add a focal point closer to the floor, as well as accented a matching picture that had already been in place on the wall. This area has become colorful and full of life!
Linda also used our beautiful White Orchid decals to liven up small areas in her bedroom, as well as some other areas in the house. As she writes:
I used two packs of orchids to achieve the look I wanted over our bed. Four smaller sprays of orchids look great between photos in a hallway.
Instead of using the whole pack of decals in one location, Linda split up the available flowers and added a touch of flair to multiple rooms, instead of just one. This concept could actually be used to create a decorating theme throughout multiple rooms, even if the available wall space is limited.
Our final submission for this theme comes from one of our own graphic designers, Karen. Karen works with RoomMates every day, so it's no surprise that she came up with a creative way to cover some unslightly cracks in a wall. Her space was limited, so instead of hiding the cracks with photos or other decor that would be a struggle to hang or fit, she custom-built our Cherry Blossom tree wall decal to disguise the imperfections. Take a look:
How clever! Not only are the cracks completely hidden, but the decal is arranged to incorporate the two light switches on the wall. Karen tells us that the cracks have since been repaired, but the decal is still in place. We're glad to hear it!
These photos are proof that you don't need giant, empty walls to decorate with our decals. RoomMates can be added almost anywhere, and nobody says you have to follow the instructions. Rules are meant to be broken! If you've dressed up a small space with RoomMates, or decorated in a creative way, be sure to take a photo and send it in—we'd love to showcase your work on this page!
